Author bio:
I was born and raised in Quincy, MA. At the age of 17 I was expelled from high school. I was a juvenile delinquent .I then had a brainstorm and was propelled by its winds in the direction of Parris Island to become a man. Just a few months after my 18th birthday, I was sent to Vietnam. I survived but brought home a head full of trauma. In 1990 I returned to Vietnam to see if I could find myself again. After my return, I began to write - and I'm still writing. My desire is to share my journey with others through my writing, and to give life and honor to those I served with in Vietnam who no longer have a voice. I have been married for more than 40 years. I have two children and two granddaughters. I served the Quincy Fire Department for 32 years and retired in 2005 as the Chief of Department. Peace

'Twas the Night Before Solstice (Southern Oregon Style) by Celeste Drolle 'Twas the Night Before Solstice (Southern Oregon Style) by Celeste Drolle Dec. 09, 2011 Free! 890 words Read a sample
Author bio:
Celeste Drolle sets aside precious little time for writing, and her critics complain that it shows. Celeste shrugs this off, aims her TV remote, and tunes in another telenovela. * * * Time for writing or not, she rarely lacks for stories -- a trait, she points out, that she shares with other habitual liars. "Can you imagine if Dick Nixon had written fiction?" smiles Celeste: "I promise to tell the Half Truth, the Twisted Truth, and nothing resembling the Truth." * * * Pressed about the unlikely likeness of her publicity photo, she mumbles something inaudible about the British Museum, face lifts, and "what's a girl to do?" * * * In pursuit of her promise to write longer fiction one day, must her ravenous appetite for C movies, hush puppies and libidinous living be curtailed? "I have often worried that advancing age might trim my sails," muses Ms. Drolle. "Lordy, how mistaken can a body can be?"

Songs of Magic and Time by Byron Gordon Songs of Magic and Time by Byron Gordon Nov. 29, 2011 $2.99 2539 words Sample 20%
Author bio:
Byron Gordon grew up in the rural Eastern Shore of Maryland, USA. One of six children, he soon discovered his love of reading, ranging from the clever humor of P.G. Wodehouse to the epic fantasy of Tolkien to the fast paced science fiction of Timothy Zahn. Fed on this widely varied diet, his imagination blossomed and he began to write, desiring to create worlds and adventures of his own. After realizing the bleak financial prospects of an aspiring writer trying to break into the fiction realm, Byron enlisted in the United States Coast Guard. He spent an extra week in Coast Guard Boot Camp (Cape May, NJ) for writing during the breaks between classes. After Boot Camp he traveled to California for training in radio communications. Following the completion of his training, he spent three years on a Coast Guard Cutter, interdicting and repatriating illegal migrants. He currently is still on active duty and plans search and rescue efforts on the east coast of the USA. Despite the intense, and often hectic, schedule that military life entails, Byron has continued to write in his free time. While writing a complete novel still proves elusive, he has composed multiple short stories and a small amount of poetry. In the spring of 2011, he started publishing his writings electronically and now has a fair number of short stories and poetry available online in a variety of formats.

Writing is a new skill for me. It's only over the past few years that I started keeping anything I wrote down. Slowly I noticed that I was sort of writing prose. I finally put them together and noticed the themes and have discovered that I really enjoy writing. Unfortunatly most ideas come while I am riding or working in the wood shop. I use my phone to get the idea down and hope I don't forget or lose my thoughts.
