Author bio:
Norton Hodges was born in Gravesend, Kent, England in 1948. He studied French and German at the University College of Swansea and taught Modern Languages for 22 years. He has also worked as a pay clerk, book reviewer, adult literacy tutor and examination invigilator. He has an M.A (1980). and a PhD in Language and Literature in Education (1998), has published academic articles and has completed an Advanced Poetry Course with the Open College of the Arts. After sickness retirement in 1997, he began to submit his poetry for publication. He has since been widely published in English poetry magazines and on the internet. His work has also appeared in anthologies, has been translated into French, Russian and Urdu and has been digitised by the Poetry Library in London. He has also translated into English the work of the francophone poets Athanase Vantchev de Thracy and Théo Crassas. In 2005, he was awarded the Grand Prix International Solenzara by a French jury from the Institut Solenzara. He now lives in Oakham, Rutland.

I'm in a writing mood today... But that's nothing new. Hello, and welcome. Pull up a chair, lean back, relax. Want a green tea? They're my favorite... So, you want to know about me? I was born in the Summer of '84. Was raised in small town, Kentucky---its grown up since then, they're at around 25,000 now. Watch out! I've always had a vivid imagination. My folks sometimes say it's because I grew up away from my older sister, and was mostly alone as a child. Not abandoned alone, but void of other children most of the time. So, I compensated by creating massive adventures in the back yard. I explained why there were twelve different "Batman" action figures in various suits, creating my own league of "Batmen" each with their own backgrounds, abilities and so on.... But that's not why you came here, now is it? No... You want to know when it happened---when I started to write. That my friend started when it started. What I mean is, as soon as I learned something was possible, I did it. I could probably pin a year on it, back to maybe First or second grade. Maybe even earlier, but I won't confirm the old wives tale of us writers having a huge ego. Not yet. I can say I first discovered great stories before I ever started School. Was my mother's fault, and I'm eternally grateful for it. I'll never forget that first reading of H.G. Wells's "The Time Machine." Science Fiction was a thing I enjoyed thoroughly for a stretch. The machines, the possibilities, and the insane explanations. Very enjoyable. But I grew, and my tastes changed. I wrote different things and different times. I even put it off altogether once because of a harsh criticism from a Seventh grade Teacher... I became an active leader in the Church I was attending and during that time Discovered one Mister Frank Peretti. He is a Christian Author with a decent understanding of horror---Supernatural Horror. Long Story Short as they say, I resigned from my positions in Church for my own reasons and not long afterward rediscovered Stephen King. King holds a special place in my dark heart. His works inspire me sure, and challenge the hell out of me. If he can do it, why can't I? Then came others... Clive Barker haunted my deepest soul with his "Hellbound Heart." A tattered old copy I found in a Peddler's mall. I love and adore this book nearly as much as I am terrified of it. Again I saw a challenge, a thing to aspire for. If he could do it, why not I? I write and I write and I write. There is no end, not to passion, not to something written upon the heart---even if it might be shadowed heart. The words come, and they go, but never too far away. I've never felt more alive than when in front of my 'puter banging away like a madman to the vicious songs in my word weaving imagination. I have yet to be officially discovered. But who I am to let that stop me? How's that Green Tea treatin' ya? Need another one? Tell ya what, grab that tea and let's take a trip. Just you, me, and a few good tales...

After few months the job placement woman told because of my cerebral palsy, I can't get a job the community. That made me sad I knew it was time for me to move out of Waukegan. Leo Shelton is a writer, author, poet, educator, scholar, and a self-proclaimed life long learner and student of life. He credits his mom (Carolyn – “Tug”) as the most influential connection and influence on his creative foundation. Growing up in Nashville, Tennessee, he began to journal, write short stories and poetry at the very early age of 10 years old. It was there, surrounding his emotional development, through the exposure to such substantive and creative arts of Fisk University, his mother and god-mother’s alma mater, and Tennessee State University, his father’s alma mater, that his first interests in the arts took anchor, through such influences as the Jubilee Singers and local playwrights and visual arts. He entered a couple of local and national poetry writing contests, and actually won a couple of awards. This solidified the quest to one day write and publish. Often labeled as a renaissance, he cautiously credits influences of such legends as Maya Angelou, James Baldwin, Nikki Giovanni, Langston Hughes and Marlon Riggs as having a major impact on his desire and creative expression, because “as powerful as those influences are, music, politics, love, life and so much of my culture, development and exposure, I think, also influences from where the words flow.” He additionally credits such influences as Robert Hayden, Richard Wright, Walt Whitman, and Paul Laurence Dunbar as big ones as well. Leo Shelton is a writer, author, poet, educator, scholar, and a self-proclaimed life long learner and student of life. He credits his mom (Carolyn – “Tug”) as the most influential connection and influence on his creative foundation. Growing up in Nashville, Tennessee, he began to journal, write short stories and poetry at the very early age of 10 years old. It was there, surrounding his emotional development, through the exposure to such substantive and creative arts of Fisk University, his mother and god-mother’s alma mater, and Tennessee State University, his father’s alma mater, that his first interests in the arts took anchor, through such influences as the Jubilee Singers and local playwrights and visual arts. He entered a couple of local and national poetry writing contests, and actually won a couple of awards. This solidified the quest to one day write and publish. Often labeled as a renaissance, he cautiously credits influences of such legends as Maya Angelou, James Baldwin, Nikki Giovanni, Langston Hughes and Marlon Riggs as having a major impact on his desire and creative expression, because “as powerful as those influences are, music, politics, love, life and so much of my culture, development and exposure, I think, also influences from where the words flow.” He additionally credits such influences as Robert Hayden, Richard Wright, Walt Whitman, and Paul Laurence Dunbar as big ones as well. En 1980, alors qu’elle n’avait que 17 ans, Francine Minville s’est aventurée dans la ville de Puerto Rico pour y travailler au sein d’une équipe québécoise de parc d’attraction « Les Amusements spectaculaires ». En 1982, lors de son cours de coiffure à l’école de coiffure masculine GVL, elle fut approchée pour coiffer les acteurs sur le plateau de tournage du film « Les Plouffes ». En 1984, elle participa au concours « Miss Montréal » où elle remporta le prix pour le défilé de mode en maillot de bain. Deux ans plus tard elle prit un cours de cinéma à l’Académie de théâtre et cinéma de Montréal. Par cette intermédiaire, elle a tenu le rôle principal dans le film « Creasy Weekend » du producteur James P. Blakes de la Californie. Par la suite, elle fut modèle pour le magazine de mode Marie-Pier. En 1987, elle a travaillé à titre de chorégraphe pour les défilés de mode et spectacles à l’Académie Marie Papillon et en 1989, elle fut finaliste pour le concours d’hôtesse de l’émission télévisée « La roue de chanceuse » à la télévision Quatre saisons. Pendant plus d’un an, elle fut bénévole auprès de personnes atteintes du Sida. Depuis 1990, Francine Minville occupe un poste d’agente de bureau à la Commission scolaire de Montréal. Elle a publié aux éditions Dédicaces son premier recueil de poésie « C’est ça la vie ! ». Au départ, Francine Minville prenait sa plume afin d’atténuer sa colère face à toute l’injustice dans ce monde. Prônant la justice depuis son plus jeune âge, elle ne pouvait concevoir de telles différences entre les peuples, les riches et les pauvres et de toute cette violence perpétuelle. Elle écrivait plusieurs textes ainsi pour les jeter par la suite et recommençait à nouveau jusqu’au jour où elle décida d’en faire des écrits formels. Depuis, l’écriture fait partie de sa vie.
