TRUE LOVE

Theirs was a love

That grew by leaps and bounds

The leaps she took at him

With a kitchen knife

And the ropes by which she was bound

ON PASSING ON 1-26-88

So strange,

This way of being

Yet so true to form

With love coming

In circles round

A never-ending circle’s born

Youth,

So vital

With children playing

And laughing aloud

Running straight into

A life that devours

Time passes quickly

And youth grows in age

Straight into life

Like the turning of a page

And, though the soul has hardened,

The mind is still anew

With daydreams and reveries

Of what they used to do

Each year is but a moment

Each day but a blink

And as they pass us by

Out lives begin to shrink

And, then,

There is no more

No sun will rise

And dreams shall go unfulfilled

Into the dark spaces of the universe

To be passed on

To me and you.

ONE WITH THE NIGHT 5-17-89

I am one with the night

We have fucked like animals

Underneath her blanket

And, yet, made love so tender

And right

That heaven could be no better

We are much alike,

The night and I

All dark and quiet and full of mystery

Awaiting our end

With quiet pride

And, like love to my darkened heart,

Knowing that it shall come again.

UNTITLED 11/25/89

The monster lurks in my heart, cold and uncaring,

He knows the limits of my soul,

Plays them like a trump card in hell,

Dealt from the bottom of the deck.

TOGETHER AS ONE

We were as one once

And shall always be

Birds of a feather

Nesting and flying free

And should we ever

Be burdened by love fire

Then let us remember

Our unremitting desire

To be as one – as it was meant to be.

MODERN DAY SHAKESPEARE 4-6-88

Hark!

What light from yond window breaks?

  • merely the blue haze

cast from the idiot box

as she sits on her fat ass

watching DYNASTY and DALLAS

so, I go down the street

to where the red light shines

and satisfy my needs

another way.

RED DAWN

The night, so cold and dark

Has passed once again

As the twin moons herald in

The coming of a new day

Through this cave of steel and glass

Sometimes I feel so all alone

In this barren waste

Of sands, canals and dunes

That the nights spent with you

In the holodome

Are all that gets me through

To this wondrous moment

When fire kisses the sky

Come share the experience, my love

Come watch the crimson fade

As the sun rises

Here on Mars

DRINKING PROBLEM

I had a drinking problem

And hiding it was hard

Until I found the answer

  • I buried her in the backyard.

DESPERATE AGE 3-19-90

The innocents

They think that there is nothing

That they can not achieve

Without the will

And the power

Of their own desires

But, as time draws on,

They find that roadblocks

And obstacles

Are insurmountable

And that their ability to conquer

Has faded,

Transplanted by complacency

And fear

Of what their lives have become

In this desperate age

Without reason

TWILIGHT 3-16-90

The cobwebs

Fill this place

In my heart

And the sunset

Through the window

Holds no promise

Of a new day’s dawning

Only the darkness

Of an empty night

And the reality

Of many more to come

LOVE POEM #69

Forgive me, my love

For stealing your heart

But it looked so lovely

Within your chest

And what man could refuse

The temptation

Of your breasts

To cup them lovingly,

Put lips to flesh

….and chew

ELAINE

Once, I returned to her again

My forever lover

My sweet Elaine

With eyes like fire

She would look

Into my eyes

And send bolts of lightning

Down my spine

But, that was long ago,
when we were young and lean

And youth took our feelings

To heart

Now, as I gaze into her eyes

The fire has died

As youth has escaped us

I smiled

And turned away

Returning to my home

And there, I shall stay

Never to see her again

UPON A SILVER SEA

Upon a silver sea

I wander

Eyes glassy as the

Skin

Of steel and brick

I walk upon

The rubble

Of the aftermath

As I look upon

A mushroom cloud

In the dawn

ANOTHER CONQUERED HERO

Like another

Conquered hero

I tuck my tail

Between my legs

Close my eyes

And beg

The powers that be

For another chance,

Another dance,

In the limelight

To prove my worth.

COLD SILENCE

Cold silence

That rules the night

Hear my cries

Of pain

Wake me from

This nightmare

Free me from

These chains

That hold me

From flight

Hear my tears

Before the night

Dwindles away

A PAUSE IN HER PASSAGE

She stopped to rest

On that trek

That would lead her nowhere

Tired and distraught

Her feet feel like lead weights

Sinking in an ocean

Of doubt

And fear

—I’d talk to her

if I knew what to say

—but what can I say to someone

with no hope

or dreams

After a while, when the pain recedes

She stands and walks away

Without a word, or a thanks

Who are you?

Who are you?

And where are you going,

Lonely woman

Whom I met

During this pause

In our passage

Through life?

DIFFERENT CIRCLES

We run in different circles

To the left

And to the right

Never knowing where we’ll end up

At the end of the night

We think alike,

You and I,

But circumstances keep us apart

I can feel the burning

In you eyes,

The fire in your heart

When you’re near,

I wonder

What it would be like

—and I think that you do, too

ponder the way it might be

if different circles

didn’t keep us blue

last night,

as I dreamed

I saw the light

Different circles

Have similar circumferences,

Needing only love and time

To make the radius right

And join the points

That have no end

A never-ending desire

Infinite and true

Like the circle

That joins me to you

THE PARKING LOT

Soon, all the cars will be gone

And the lot will be empty

Alone, like me

Hours ago, it was so alive

Not a spot could be found

Life seemed to flow there

And I know not why

But, now,

All the bars are closed

And the migration of man

And machine

Has taken place

Leaving only empty spaces

And so many dreams

Unfulfilled

Until tomorrow

When life claims it anew
