When a Cherry Tree first blossoms

I have often passed

but not noticed you

against the sky cold and grey

of a winter’s day

slender whips of wine red

denuded but not dead

Fragile little flowers of the kindest pink today

near end of January I first see you

and I think

of vistas of abounding fairness

in a few weeks will soon come

to sway in the wind

like the long free hair

of my young lady friend

Morning Birds

A senate of birds

on a wire sat
