When a Cherry Tree first blossoms
I have often passed
but not noticed you
against the sky cold and grey
of a winter’s day
slender whips of wine red
denuded but not dead
Fragile little flowers of the kindest pink today
near end of January I first see you
and I think
of vistas of abounding fairness
in a few weeks will soon come
to sway in the wind
like the long free hair
of my young lady friend
Morning Birds
A senate of birds
on a wire sat
