About the Author

one last drag

freezing frigid fingers

hold the filter

as chapped pink lips

take a drag

from the cheap cigarette

her back turned

to shelter from the

wicked windchill

she exhales a

cloud of circling smoke

letting out the

exhaustion of the day

takes another drag

and as the cigarette

burns down to the filter

burning cotton and

who knows what

slips in

dropping the butt

on the concrete

crushing it out

with the toe of her

worn work shoes

opening the backdoor

and slipping inside

but tonight

it might have to wait

till tomorrow

if time stood still

if time stood still

and life would stop

would love remain

unchanged

can people

hold time

in their hands

can wishes

build a bridge

do love

and life

revolve around

the stars in the sky

would nighttime

last forever

if all our dreams

should die

listen

listen to the laughter of children

and in it you will find

the sound of my voice

listen to the rain

on the window pane

and in it you will find

the sorrow in my heart

listen to the whispers

of the wind

and in it you will find
