Pretty/Sick Poems

Michael A Edgerly

“Office Space”

A man sits in his chair and slowly, ever so carefully cleans the hair fibers of meat off the skull. He stops and ponders, looking down at his latest victim. “Did I punch in after lunch?”

“A Pack a Day”

Sitting in front of the TV a slim man puffs a cigarette in full lip. “Smoking kills thousands a year” the tube crackles. He grins. Smiling, he bangs it out on the coffee table, ash flying. “Your right,” he smiles. “It’s bad for me.” He leans back and continues to read his manual, “How to become a successful serial killer.”

“Fierce”

The clouds split and danced across the sky, a ballet of two lovers. It seemed to be the puppet. That’s what made Carl stare for a moment. He felt love. He looked down and continued to bury his victims.

“After-Math”

A four year boy sits at the kitchen table enjoying his yoo-hoo. He glares at the paper in front of him, “Math Sucks, I just don’t get it.” Taking a deep breath he looks up. “If I take one heart and add another heart I got two hearts.” His older sister sits across from him and laughs at his despair. “Enough with adding.” He smiles as he grabs his scissors, “Let’s practice subtraction”.

“Meat Market”

He stares at the men wearing white and covered in blood. “Can I help you?” One of them turns to the stranger. “Why yes”, he responds stepping forward. “I need two pounds of rib, um, three pounds of thigh and some pickled tongue, if you have such a thing here.” The man looks at the stranger in disgust and yells, “This is a morgue sir!” The stranger grins, “And?”

“Paging Dr. Happy”
