I Love Lucy

You could soothe me

you could cradle this

murmuring creature

warm milk & kisses

in a static sea

black & white TV

the sound of you

lulling me to sleep.

Heaven

A softly lit space with

warm open summer air

illuminated by tiny lights

loosely strung on wooden poles

There is a long table

many people are laughing

dishes clanking and

tall neon drinks

little umbrellas and plastic swords

I remember looking up

at my grandfather's face.

Hell

Stinking mud and

pitch black sky

fire engulfs this child

from her belly

a line of house lights in the distance

offer no reprieve

from the circle of flames.

Forest Carnival

The sweet smell of

hay and chamomile

meets cedar sawdust

the carousel’s beautiful painted

seat for two

I want to kiss someone in

an enormous fallen tree

was carved into a whale.
