every pretty part partake in

loll then gag

luster that luster lustily

imbrown thighs and shoulders with sunlike gestures


kiss me then

every projecting piece

lull then gig

last then lastly lie

impurple the lowly servant in plushy royal folds

the girls in backless stringtied tops speak smoke puffs shuffle feet perk pechos sip beer cheer boys babble table wobbles girls burst alive boys fiddle with freedom the backwards boy at the bar watches the boys at the table fondle the girls with fabulous fancies leaves a tip splits spent

there is no garden like a public square


when in scurry or in sloth

the sun will catch the children

make them glow


the fountain at the center of the park

is a stubblefaced geezer rambling on about the corruption of kings


the rain begins

umbrellas balloon

the public square is full of almost circles

the trees along the Avenida Ejército

block the intense Peruvian sun

pretty cholos

a solo

en groups of three

create breeze


and then sun again


there is music everywhere

melodies spilling out from the combis

cadent with destinations

impatient beeps from swarming taxis

and whistles in the mouths of expressionless traffic police

trio verdadero


bluest sky i've known


the skipinmystep

sprung

from the vibrancy of youth

mine theirs

nearby volcanoes loom

contemplating bursting


(there are probably temblores

leves breves

under my feet)(there

are greater tectonic motions

swirling underneath:

dances

spun by nevadas

and enamorados

besuqueando

in nooks in parks (my windows

rattle i totter))


no clouds to block the sun

(bluest sky penetrating translucencies of (e)smog)


this is no normal sun

it rages and energizes

when it can

between buildings

youdon'tunderstandthisisnonormalsun

(i know why the incas worshipped this sun)

(i know why the viejos barely move)

(i know why the jóvenes embrace in corners)


i soak up every ray of this everydayday

counting each black brick

(probably quaking)

i scan every face for every story

i look inside every vehicle capturing every outward glance

i inhale every toxic fume

blackening lungs and busts of war heroes


shade the sun again

interchanges of coolth and warmth



winter in July

i want every July to be winter

i want every sky to be the dome above Arequipa


i dance standing still

microseismic playground

Funes el memorioso

capturing every texture in this faraway hereandnow
