A-Z of Animal Poems by Peter Cain A-Z of Animal Poems by Peter Cain May 15, 2012 $2.99 3963 words Sample 20%
Author bio:
Captain Peter Cain (born 1954) spent all his childhood years living in a small village called Buxworth which is situated in the hills of the Peak District in North Derbyshire. At the age of 20, he broke away from village life to become a Redcoat Entertainer at the Butlins Holiday Centre in Ayr, Scotland. From there he advanced from being a bingo caller and then manager to sales executive for a cleaning firm before finally owning his own business which he eventually sold. He aimed for a complete 'life change' and went through the process of becoming a professional boat skipper. He sailed around to Portugal and settled in the beautiful tourist locality of Lagos, which is situated in the west of the Algarve. He has worked in the region as a skipper on various tourist boats during the summer seasons since 2000. When he was in his early 30’s, having always shown an interest in writing, he was a whisker away from having some of his work accepted for TV. Until recently his work commitments prevented him from further pursuing his love of writing and poetry, but now has time to return to his favourite pastime. His first book, which has been published through Kindle is called 'Percy the Parrot - and Other Pet Subjects', which is based on the African Grey parrot Peter once owned and also in the book are some of his many other humorous encounters with various creatures ranging from mice to elephants. To add to this, his new book 'A Sign of the Rhymes' which was released on March 1st 2012 contains humorous rhymes, 'Puzzling Poems' and a concept he has named 'Re-versing Rhyme', an interesting take on poetry. Peter has just finished writing a follow up to his first book which is entitled 'Percy the Parrot 2, the bird's perspective''. A light hearted fictional account of events as experienced by 'Percy'. The book is also now available through Kindle publishing. Peter is presently in the process of writing more poetry and rhymes with an illustrated children's 'A-Z of Animal Poems'.

Blessed by my sickening thoughts of the dreary life that I have lived through the years, this curse has taught me much on how to express the woes from deep below my skin rather let myself tear me apart as I could spiral down and become disorientated by the world around us, more than it does — at it’s best. Like the finest wine, there’s a tendency to bleed it dry to the last drop until the flavour leaves my tongue burning with the flavour.

I love good science fiction and deplore the bad. I write science fiction novels, and I hope no one deplores them. My novels are marketed online, on TV, and in the newspapers. My marriage is great, and my wife's name is Lou Ann. We have four sons who are grown and gone. We live in Las Vegas, Nevada. But we don't gamble - too smart for that. I play tennis - mediocre. I love sci fi movies, but my wife doesn't, so I have to go by myself. (She did like "Iron Man".) Although I love to write, I had to find a profession which would support me and my family---I was a Chiropractic physician for 29 years. I hope things are going well for you. We need more peace and love in the world - violence needs to stay in fiction.

Author bio:
Warren L.G De Mills is a Poet/Musician. Born in the far off Caribbean island of Trinidad and Tobago, He was raised in a Christian home and has many supporting family members whom he trusts and loves so dearly. He attended Queen's Royal College where he attained his O level passes and was participant in varying extra curricular activities. He was part of the school's committee for the Inter-School's Christian Fellowship (ISCF) where he, with the committee, held meetings, debates and discussions on a weekly basis. He captained the football team at the U-14 level where they made it to the zonal finals. That season he obtained the "Player of the Year" award, the "Best Defender" award as well as the "Most Valuable Player" award. However, he then decided to drop his sports gear to take up the arts more seriously. This is where he picked up the guitar and made singing a priority, writing was ever prominent from even the earlier stages of his life and so it continued on through these stages as well. He soon began covering songs by Metallica, Trivium and popular Metalcore acts of the time such as As I Lay Dying. Taught by one of the Best instructors in the country, Shallun Sammy (ex Skid'Nevely, Current Five Miles To Midnight) guitarist, He picked up things pretty fast. He stunned audiences with musical styles that were not necessarily popular at the time. He also picked up acting around this time making his debut at NAPA in the Broadway Musical Hit 'West Side Story' playing the Role of the gang member Arab. This exposure assisted his skills in singing and lyric writing as well as it aided his ability to perform in-front of large audiences. During this time Warren was also performing at various 'Open Mic' events broadcasting his talent for guitar playing and singing as well as poetry. With encouraging reactions from the crowds He continued to perform and write. He had his poem 'Daymare' featured in the Trinidad & Tobago National Poetry Day, where it one first place poem reading. He is also a member of the Trinidad & Tobago Poet's Society. Many of his poetic pieces were published in the popular student paper 'The Student Press' and the 'Gie Network'. He began to compose original music which followed the style of 'Deathcore' in their early stages, then metalcore for a while then more recently He has adapted a more melodic tone. This is exclusive of acoustic song sketches and ideas. Currently, He is pursuing a Bachelor's Degree of arts in Theology & Religion with an emphasis on Pastoral Ministry at the University of the Southern Caribbean. He teaches Religious Instruction part time in his Alma Mata, Queen's Royal College. At this stage in life, he has become versed in the languages of English, Spanish and French.

After Midnight:Love's Journey by Joyce Oscar After Midnight:Love's Journey by Joyce Oscar June 26, 2011 $2.50 3734 words Sample 7%
Author bio:
Growing up in Memphis Tennessee, Joyce Oscar seems to have always had stories and rhymes in her head. Many days she would sit in her room writing song lyrics and later force her neighborhood friends to sing them. By the time she was in high school her love for reading and writing had become stronger. She attributes her love for words and expression to one of her literature instructors at Hillcrest High School. “I remember sitting in my literature class one day and being given an assignment and we had to write a story. This was not a story of our choice so to speak. Our teacher wrote a topic on the board, “She Was Old and Ugly”. This phrase was to be the very first sentence of our paper. I thought this was the craziest thing, she was always giving us strange writing projects. Well the point of the assignment was to get us to dig deep and pull out all of those literary terms that we had been learning. Each one needed to be reflected somehow in that paper. Well I received an “A” and it was the start of a whole new world for me.” Throughout high school and beyond, Joyce has maintained many journals, but the journals that she wrote as an adult were the ones that gave her the inspiration for her first book of poetry, After Midnight: Love’s Journey. She feels that poetry had the power to re-create the human experiences like, falling in love, losing love, facing death and disease and finding God. “Journaling was my escape from the daily stress. It was a secret between my pen and me. I never actually thought about writing as being anything other than something I did when the rest of the world was asleep.” A single mom, Joyce lives outside of Atlanta, Georgia with her two kids. She is an alumnus of the University of Memphis and Mercer University and holds a degree in both Accounting and Information Technology. She is also an advocate of community service and volunteers with community organizations such as The Atlanta All-Stars Talent Network, The Pebblebrook Jr. Falcon Track Team, and the Pebblebrook Beta Phi Step Team.

I've been writing since I was eight, but it didn't sink in that writing was my future until I was nineteen. Since then I've written treatments for over one hundred books in nearly every genre. My first completed novel, Costly Obsession: Animalize the first book of the Costly Obsession trilogy, was released at the begining of this year and book two, Costly Obsession: Decay, has just been released. When not writing or taking care of my little domestic zoo, I enjoy painting and playing music. My biggest fan is my amazing husband of seventeen years, but that's only fair since I'm his biggest fan too.

The picture is from my 2008 visit to the United States Air Force Academy in Colorado Springs. I was among 50 Korean War veterans invited to speak before the cadets at a forum on the Korean War. Since the 1960's, when I first worked as a Design Engineer/Quality Engineer/Technical writer at Cape Canaveral and the Kennedy Space Center, I have produced words for people to use, in specifications, procedures and manuals. With Smashwords now available as an open portal, where the only cost of publishing is your labor, I no longer have any justifiable excuses to not get on with my contribution to the written word. Ago And Other Poems was my first published effort as a freelance author; followed by The Art of Losing At The Game of Chess, Romeo & Juliet-The Coolest Lovers, and Hip Hamlet-A New Look At an Old Character. I'm republishing another ebook today (August 8th). Its title is Whispers From My Heart,a book of poetry, articles, and essays, with the latter half of the 183-page book consisting of over 120 pieces of humor rescued from the Internet. Other works in line are a very different book on practical politics, A Citizens Manual for Amending the U.S. Constitution; and two stage plays, One Hour With Dad, and Angels In Your Face. Please stay tuned. George Enice Lawhon
