"Kottyn's Pickin" Great Dessert! | by Kottyn The Soft Spoken Poet July 23, 2011 | $2.99 | 3703 words | Sample 10% |
| “Love Isn’t a War†Love doesn't take you to war with the one that say they Love you, Love allows you to conquer the fight together, if one person trips the other keeps them from falling, if one person cry’s, the other wipes the tears before they roll down the cheek, if one is happy the other shares in their joy, there is no ending to loving a person instead it’s the beginning of life. | |||||
| Author bio: “This Is Me†My sensuality comes natural to me; my subtle flirty way can’t be contained. I’m not conceded, but very confident in my ability to mind blow you with my scent… My beauty comes from my actions not from the appearance of my physical body or should I say boo-ty. My beauty is shown in the love I project even before I speak, you respect...the silence of my voice, my eyes say so much more, look beyond the beauty I am who you adore…for what I have to offer is quietly stored…away, God holds the key so get on one knee ask for me go ahead pray. Not having a career of my own to be a good mother…â€was already written in stoneâ€, hardships, bad credit, and God is what I discovered, pushed aside my dreams to secure a good future for my sons and my daughters…no good fathers, friends, or lovers…no smoking or drinking…wait let me re-think it… My children would have been left on their own it was a struggle everyday just trying to keep the lights on…even though I have a house it’s not my home Through Gods love, grace, and mercy I’m no longer living on the streets warm bed and something good to eat… Because of God’s love I stayed above water, so if you’re not on his team, then don’t even bother…don’t think you will break me I give God the glory I am just getting started… Hey! This is just the beginning of my story! |

'Twas the Night Before Solstice (Southern Oregon Style) | by Celeste Drolle Dec. 09, 2011 | Free! | 890 words | Read a sample |
| A rollicking spoof on the old chestnut "A Visit From Saint Nicholas" (aka "Twas the Night Before Christmas") by Clement C Moore. Join a rural-dwelling marijuana farmer and his family as their speeded-up distributor arrives in a Jeep pulled by eight snarling pit bulls. Chuckle as the scrawny fellow tumbles down the stovepipe to do business while the ol' lady and the chilluns snore. (18+ please). | |||||
| Author bio: Celeste Drolle sets aside precious little time for writing, and her critics complain that it shows. Celeste shrugs this off, aims her TV remote, and tunes in another telenovela. * * * Time for writing or not, she rarely lacks for stories -- a trait, she points out, that she shares with other habitual liars. "Can you imagine if Dick Nixon had written fiction?" smiles Celeste: "I promise to tell the Half Truth, the Twisted Truth, and nothing resembling the Truth." * * * Pressed about the unlikely likeness of her publicity photo, she mumbles something inaudible about the British Museum, face lifts, and "what's a girl to do?" * * * In pursuit of her promise to write longer fiction one day, must her ravenous appetite for C movies, hush puppies and libidinous living be curtailed? "I have often worried that advancing age might trim my sails," muses Ms. Drolle. "Lordy, how mistaken can a body can be?" |

101 Politically Incorrect LIMERICKS | by Gary Kuyper Oct. 21, 2010 | $0.99 | 18229 words | Sample 15% |
| I have here some brand new ditties From old and not-so-old cities They mostly contain Stuff to warp your brain Such as sex, violence, language and nudities | |||||
| Author bio: Gary Kuyper began his professional literary career writing self-help and general interest articles for Daan Retief Publishers who produced a monthly book for their woman’s club called Woman’s Forum. These articles would sometimes require research and had titles as diverse as The Human Brain and Body Painting! Being a professional photographer on a part-time basis Gary has also managed to have his articles on photography (With accompanying photographs) published in books and magazines. He has also done some free-lance photography and photojournalism projects for numerous local newspapers. Over the past four years he has constantly managed to be one of the top finalists in the Nova Short Story Competition (A competition for budding writers of science fiction and/or fantasy). Last year (2009) Gary had the pleasure of seeing The Devil's Little Tadpoles grace the pages of the local SF & Fantasy Fanzine Probe. He is an avid film buff and amateur film maker. A few years ago I managed to take first prize in the SA Ten Best Film Makers Competition with a short film entitled The Crimson Cobra - An action-packed martial arts / superhero movie using some of the very talented local artists. He is a qualified prosthetics make-up artist and has used this talent on both amateur and professional productions. He has also appeared on television in a youth program especially made for enlightening people in the art of special effects make-up. Gary has a rather excellent general knowledge being not only an avid writer but reader of any material that is able to stimulate him cerebrally. He taught himself Adobe Photoshop and has become adapt and proficient enough at utilizing the software to such a degree that he has managed to sell a number of creations to various institutes and organizations. He is particularly fond of a logo designed for the Krazy Mug Coffee Shop and several covers that have graced the front of Probe. Gary has a vast knowledge of music and has appeared on the local Television Music Quiz Show Note for Note where he was able to win a substantial amount of prize money. In 2008 he entered the SF / Fantasy Mini Radio Play Competition and took first prize with his The Adventures of Captain Max Power of the Intergalactic Police - an obvious homage to the early Flash Gordon radio series’. A number of skilled professionals are now planning to produce Max to CD and have it aired on a local radio station (SAfm). All his literary and photojournalistic accomplishments have been done on a part-time basis due to the fact that his full time career is lecturing mathematics as well as engineering science at a Technical College. Although this is a most fulfilling profession, it has long been Gary's ideal to become a full-time writer – especially of fantasy, science fiction and horror novels. He has recently published his first full-length fantasy novel - The Chronicles of Baltrath: The DARK WIZARDS. As a considerable amount of time and effort has been expended in building the world of Baltrath, Gary has begun work on a sequel to The Dark Wizards. |

108 Breaths | by Mark Wollacott Jan. 23, 2012 | $0.99 | 10545 words | Sample 20% |
| A haiku is one breath. It is the kodak moment of poetry. In 2004, Mark Wollacott moved to Japan to teach English. Along the way he picked up a love of haiku in all its forms and this collection chronicles his five years in Osaka through the highs, the lows and the plain weird. | |||||
| Author bio: Mark Wollacott was born in 1980 in Cirencester, Gloucestershire, and grew up there, but has spent most of his 20s in Japan and Hungary. He studied at Europe's smallest university, the University of Wales, Lampeter and played badly for their cricket team. Graduation saw him move into an assistant manager role at a hiking store in Cirencester until it burnt down in 2004. After a brief stint in Bristol, he spent five years teaching English in Osaka, Japan. While there he wrote for Kansai Time Out, Kansai Scene and on coming back to England, The Austin Post. His first short story "The Spare Room" was published in the For Tohoku charity anthology in 2011. He has found it increasingly difficult to find work in Britain and his poetry collection "108 Breaths" is his first attempt on a long road to becoming a self-publisher and full-time writer. It is either that or join the dole queue. Mark now spends most of his time writing, arguing with his cat and wishing Aston Villa would not sell their best players. |

3 Poems | by Angus Brownfield Nov. 20, 2011 | Free! | 411 words | Read a sample |
| Three short poems selected from a plethora of unpublished material. | |||||
| Author bio: My life, sort of The writers whose lives interest me most are either long dead or have led lives not typical of writers. Yet it evidently helps readers to know about writers. A writer whose works I’ve recently become acquainted with, Jodi Picoult, writes a lot about herself on her web page, posts candid photos, and I’m guessing this helps readers connect with her books. Megan McCafferty, author of Sloppy Firsts, Second Helpings, etc., started a retroblog—her diary from age ten through twenty-something, in part, I gather from reading a review in Salon.com, to separate herself from her characters (http://www.meganmccafferty.com/retroblogger/ ). There’s nothing about my life that will enhance the experience of reading my novels. To the extent that they’re autobiographical, they’re not so in any direct way. Flaubert said of Madame Bovary, “Emma, c'est moi.†In the same sense, I’m all the characters in, say, Rigoberto and his two wives: Rigoberto Calderón, Carmen Noble de Calderón, Juan the apprentice and Bernardo the curandero. Like personages in dreams, all the characters in a novel are the author. Still, I think it helps to know where an author came from, not to read his or her works but to put you in touch with him as you would with a performing artist whom you can see in the flesh. Celebrity is an inappropriate concept for writers, usually, but feedback is a workable one. So, here are some of the accidents of my life that I believe helped form me: I’m the last of five children, my oldest sibling twelve years older than I, the closest in age six years my senior. My mother died when I was six, an accident of her life I can’t blame her for but have never fully accepted: I never got enough of her. My father had an extensive library, and I read constantly growing up, though since college television has cut into my reading time. I was raised a Catholic, going to parochial schools and an all-boys Catholic prep school. I graduated from the University of California, Berkeley, back when it was the consensus best university in the world. This is a humbling experience: you may have been a whiz in high school, you were no big deal on that campus. I live in Ashland, Oregon, which is an interesting small town, with a world-class repertory theater and a satisfying mixture of foresters, bohemians, geeks, artists and coupon clippers. I married (and divorced) three times, all interesting women, and fathered five children. All of these have shaped me. These authors’ works have most informed my own writing: Elmore Leonard, whom I put first because I’ve read him most recently. There is no one better at catching the flavor of places and peoples through using their patois. Thomas Mann, whose Joseph and His Brothers is the nonpareil of epic novels, indeed, may be the best work of prose fiction ever written. (I consider Shakespeare’s plays to be poetry.) William Faulkner, whose apocryphal Yoknapatawpha County was in my youth as familiar to me as any place I’ve ever lived, and who made me realize what power words have. Faulkner’s short fiction is matched only by Mann’s. Ernest Hemingway, whose The Sun Also Rises surpasses any novel I’ve read in the way he put words down on paper; for a large part of my formative years I read this book every eighteen months or so. Albert Camus, whose novel, The Plague, touches my heart beyond any prose I’ve read. Carlos Castaneda, whose first four books (fiction? non-fiction?) blew out the corners of my imagination. Aeschylus, whose Oresteia made me understand what drama is. E. E. Cummings, who demonstrated that a seemingly mined-out convention, the sonnet, could be fresh and new in the hands of a master. W. B. Yeats, whose corpus is the standard by which I judge all modern poets. Here are some other likes and dislikes: To cook: it’s the bead game, it’s a challenge, it is manic and relaxing at once. I bake all my own (sourdough) bread and make a mean soufflé. My favorite movies: Black Orpheus and Shoot the Piano Player, with 8½ Some Like It Hot, Treasure of Sierra Madre and Chushingura not far behind. My favorite music: almost anything but Rap and the heaviest of Rock and Roll—Allison Kraus to Denny Zeitlin, with Chopin, Beethoven and The Beatles thrown in for good measure. But if I were shipwrecked with the work of just one person, it would have to be Bach’s. Writing is both a therapy and my compulsion. In 2011 I published eight novels, some started back in the Eighties, four completed last year, two started and finished in 2011. For a list of extant works, click here. |

| Poetry, Haiku and Quotes by Stormsage A mixed bag of emotions are visually brought to life within the written words of '4 White Walls' by Australian Author, StormSage. | |||||
| Author bio: Born in QLD Australia, to a middle class family; I guess you could say I was raised in a carefree yet strict manner. From an early age I found it hard to socialise with others, and quite often preferred my own company. I discovered very fast that I had more of an affinity with animals rather than the people around me. I moved to NSW at the age of 7 with my two elder sisters (10+ years my senior), who I always wished I could have been closer to in age; and my parents. While they did there best, they faught on most days (but always made sure that they told me that they loved me and provided me with most of the things I wanted). At the age of 14 I decided to rebel against my parents, my family and the world; I didn't get this rebellious mostly self destructive side out of my blood until reaching 23 years of age. That's when I got the biggest and most unexpected surprise of my life, I was soon going to be a mum. No, I wasn't prepared, nor was I ever what you would call a maternal type. Early on I had decided I mostly likely wouldn't have children, but saying that is one thing. And almost 10 years down the track (with a few hiccups along the way) I now have two lovely children; a man that works hard and loves typical Aussie bloke past times i.e. fishing, beer, 4WD's, BBQ's and his TV. Now in my early 30's I guess you could say I have grown into a semi stable, semi sane, good hearted, opinionated yet compassionate woman; combined with a love for poetry, art, helping others and learning; I have always dabbled with art and poetry mostly for my own therapy. However now I find myself with some spare time, I decided to take a re adventure into my creative side and share it with you all. |

| Author bio: Hi all, I hope you have enjoyed reading Old Magick. As you can see, I like the vampire genre, but it doesn't stop there. I love to read, some of my favourite authors include Terry Pratchett, Iain M Banks, Margaret Atwood, Robert Jordan and Anne Rice. There is quite a wide range of different styles of book and novella on my kindle at the moment and I am currently reading The Wheel of Time Series again, after finishing it (up to date anyway) and recently reading Snuff. I have more hobbies than reading and writing though, I also cross stitch and design patterns I am currently stitching some pieces that are a part of a magazine commission for the coming New Year. I normally spend some time stitching and take a break by writing. I am currently writing the sequel to Old Magick, set back in the 1400's it follows the same family. I am also storyboarding for the third and final in the series. I hope you like them and stay with me until the end. Happy reading Kirstyanne Ross x |
